Robert Caldwell Bollinger & Family Connections

Robert Caldwell Bollinger (1883-1912)
8th of 11 children born to
Joseph M Bollinger (1844-1921) and Sarah Elizabeth Bollinger (1849-1923)

Paternal grandparents:
Joshua Bollinger (1810-1889) and Lena Statler (1812-1849)
Maternal grandparents:
John A Bollinger (1828-1913) and Mary Magdalena Hahn (1829-1911)

Robert's father, Joseph, is the older half-brother of Benjamin Franklin Bollinger
Robert's mother, Sarah, is the older sister of Frances Quintilla Bollinger
(A case of brothers married to sisters)

Another interesting family connection:
Joshua Bollinger's mother, Mary Magdalena Hahn (1791-1861)
and Mary Magdalena Hahn's father, Abraham Hahn (1786-1860)
were brother and sister, the children of Joshua Hahn and Elizabeth Henkel;

which makes both Joseph & Sarah and Benjamin & Frances
second cousins who married.

This Hahn Family connection is one generation closer than their Bollinger Family connection, in which they are third cousins through their Bollinger great-grandfathers, brothers John and Matthias. Is that totally confusing?

RUSSELL

Jan. 24, 1915 - Jan. 18, 2010

Lois Rosamond Russell, Nee Bollinger, born January 26, 1915, passed away peacefully at home in Merced on Monday night, January 18, 2010, age 94.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Judy Mahony and Pam Holmes-White; sons-in-law, Frank Mahony and Alan White; grandchildren, Russ, Warwick, Ali and his wife Jessica Holmes and Angie and her husband Mike Zyrucha and Christie Mahony; great granddaughters, Zoe, Annabel and Tess Holmes, and Courtney and Breeanna Zyrucha; two surviving sisters, Eunice Tippie and Paulou Walker; and her sister-in-law, Theda Bollinger. Of her many nieces and nephews, special gratitude is given to Wanda Lawin and Betty Scott who provided enormous assistance in her last years. Her husband Neal Russell passed away in 1999.

Lois grew up in Chowchilla, and graduated from Chowchilla Union High School in 1932. In 1934 she began her study at Fresno City Commercial College, where she met Neal Russell. After they married, Lois and Neal ran an accountancy business and were partners in the bowling alley in Chowchilla for many years, and they retired to Camp Meeker in the Redwoods in the mid 1970's. Lois moved to Merced after her husband's death.

In previous years, she had done leather work and hand-carved ceramics work at her sister Frankie Clement's shop. She was also a gifted seamstress, sewing many of Judy and Pam's clothes, especially for special events. Lois took up quilting in her 60s and quilted with the Graton Church of Christ Quilting Circle for more than 20 years. She continued with her quilting after coming back to the San Joaquin Valley in 1999, and attended a Merced College quilting class in Chowchilla with her sister-in-law Theda Bollinger and her nieces Wanda Lawin and Betty Scott. She has completed more that 40 quilts over those years, and produced baby quilts for all her great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews over the years. She also crocheted Afghans for her grandsons in the flag of their countries of birth or citizenship, completing one Canadian, one Papua-New Guinean and one American flag afghan.

Lois worshipped with the Churches of Christ in Chowchilla, Graton and Merced throughout her lifetime. Her memorial service will be held at the Merced Church of Christ, 2050 Yosemite Parkway at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010. The service will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall at the church, and then in the recreation center at Merced Mobile Estates, 2020 Ashby Road, Merced.

The family request that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the , or the Bristol Hospice, 1170 W. Olive Avenue, Merced, Ca 95348.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
